The poll by Alan Newman Research, which is based in Richmond, shows Clinton getting 53.3 percent of the support, Trump at 28.8 percent, Libertarian Gary Johnson with 8.1 percent and 9.9 percent giving an "other" response.
Among those polled, 37.3 percent say they are a Democrat, 28.5 percent say they are a Republican and 29.3 percent say they are an Independent. Half of those identify as either "moderate leaning liberal" or "moderate leaning conservative."
When asked "regardless of who you support, who do you think will win the 2016 presidential election," more than 80 percent said Clinton.
The poll shows that more than 70 percent of the voters would be "disappointed" or "angry" if Trump won as opposed to 47 percent for Clinton.
The poll was conducted between Oct. 27-31 among 1,237 Richmond-area voters. The poll has a plus-or-minus margin of error of 2.8 percent.
