"I want to be in the Senate for a long time," according to a report from the Virginian Pilot.
Kaine, a Democrat, is Richmond's former mayor and Virginia's former governor, and has been in the U.S. Senate since 2012.
Kaine was Hillary Clinton's vice presidential pick in the year's election and lost to Donald Trump and Mike Pence on Nov. 8.
Prior to joining the Democratic ticket this summer, Kaine said that he liked his job as a senator and that he's been comfortable in roles where he's been a "leader" and a "follower."
"I know how to work on a team," he said when asked about being a candidate for vice president this year.
