Virginia delegates in Cleveland this week for the Republican National Convention are using the opportunity to set the stage for 2017 as the race for governor heats up.
WTVF says Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie has raised about $1.3 million in his campaign and Congressman Rob Wittman has raised about $57,000. A political expert at George Mason University says Wittman can transfer $1 million from a previous campaign to his gubernatorial campaign when he needs it.
Another candidate -- Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart -- has not raised any money.
Republicans will select its nominee for governor and other state offices at a convention -- not a primary -- next year.
