Now that the General Assembly session is complete, the fund raising operation from both sides is firing up in earnest. For Terry McAuliffe that means bringing in his biggest gun, the former President of the United States and his best friend Bill Clinton.
McAuliffe's campaign has been slowly and quietly rolling out major fund raisers with Clinton in various spots throughout the country. Clinton will headline fund raisers for McAuliffe in New York City and outside Orlando, FL.
Now, astute Decision Virginia readers have clued us in that McAuliffe will tap into his Clinton network another time for a fundraiser featuring the former president at the New Orleans home of his famous political strategist James Carville.
The NOLA event is scheduled for May 6th, in between the Florida event and the New York City event. McAuliffe himself will not attend the event in New Orleans.
The Cuccinelli campaign has enjoyed poking fun at their opponent's travels outside of the Commonwealth, in particular those trips to states which McAuliffe is rumored to have considered a run for governor (New York, Florida).
This weekend, McAuliffe held a high dollar fundraiser around the Syracuse- Louisville college basketball game. Syracuse is where McAuliffe grew up. He went to college at Catholic University in D.C. and Law School at Georgetown. He has lived in McLean for more than two decades.
It's not just the campaigns that have enjoyed poking fun at McAuliffe's schedule. Ken Cuccinelli himself tweeted this picture of a license plate on I-95:
Of course in the tweet, the Attorney General failed to mention he was born in New Jersey. Perhaps he ran out of characters.
We will continue to keep an eye on where both candidates are spending their time and raising cash as the campaigns ramp up.
