Virginia as America's top battleground was on display in Fishersville Thursday night as Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan brought out a huge crowd enthused in large part because of Romney's strong debate performance.
(Romney spoke to a big crowd in Fishersville)
Romney will be in Virginia tommorrow as well meeting with coal workers in Abingdon. President Barack Obama will be in Fairfax Friday as well. First Lady Michelle Obama will make a stop in Loudoun County on Tuesday.
Here is my story on Romney's visit to Virginia for NBC12:
It was a big night for Mitt Romney and he is working hard to keep the momentum going. Romney's performance in last night's debate is being considered a potential opportunity for him to turn his campaign around.
Prior to last night's debate, Romney's campaign was on life support..
90 minutes later his chances of unseating Barack Obama have been re-energized and that was on display tonight in Fishersville.
It had all the trappings of a victory party- complete with a country music star. Trace Adkins warmed the crowd up, and the GOP nominee rolled into Virginia prepared to reset his campaign.
"We are taking back this country together you know that?" he asked.
Romney and his running mate, Paul Ryan drew an enormous crowd, so big it up backed traffic on local highways for three miles. The GOP presidential nominee promised to capitalize on the newly found energy.
'I will keep this country strong, with your help we are taking back the white house, we are going all the way to Washington,” Romney said. “Paul Ryan and I are going to get this country back on track."
But while Romney has had one good night, President Barack Obama has been in control of this election. Obama, still leading in the polls seemed to shake off his poor debate performance. In two separate swing state rallies, he poked at fun at Romney's plan to cut the federal subsidy to PBS.
"Thank goodness somebody's finally cracking down on Big Bird!” he joked. “Who knew he was responsible for all these deficits. Elmo's gotta watch out!"

that Romney's refusal to reselae his tax returns would come back to bite him big time ... and it did in the SC Primary.Romney forgot the first rule of politics ... the need to be proactive rather than reactive ... and now he is left playing catch-up politics .. never a good thing. It is not his wealth that is at issue. He could have turned his success into electoral advantage ... 'We should celebrate success. It is the American dream and give me a chance and I will make you (America) wealthy too' ... or suchlike. He has squandered that chance. He is playing the Washington outsider vs the Washington insider card and how that that will resonate remains to be seen. But I continue to be amazed that the GOP sees Romney and Gingrich as quality candidates. They are to the Republicans much like Goff was to Labour and Peters to National before be jumped/pushed.On current form I fear that Obama will win at a canter.Mike Huckerbee ... where are you?
