The Mitt Romney campaign announced late Friday night that they are prepared to announce their pick as Romney's running mate at an event Saturday in Norfolk.
Following the event, Romney is scheduled to embark on a swing through Virginia that will bring him to Ashland and a rally at Randolph Macon College that afternoon.
It is expected that the new VP pick will be on the entire swing.
While there is promise that this boosts Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell's chances to become Romney's running mate, many published reports are saying that signs are pointing to Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as Romney's choice.
The announcement will be made on board the U.S.S Wisconsin in Norfolk.
The Romney campaign will push the announcement out officially to supporters via a mobile phone app notification.
Even if McDonnell is not picked, the fact that Romney chose Virginia to make this crucial announcement, the biggest of his campaign, is proof that the Commonwealth is the most important battleground of the 2012 race.
I will be on NBC12 news tonight at Midnight after the Olympics to preview the announcement and to talk about tomorrow's event.
UPDATE: Here is my report for NBC12 from my kitchen.
Below is the official announcement from the Romney campaign.
