Dominion Riverrock, organized by Venture Richmond and the Sports Backers, is the East Coast's premier outdoor lifestyle festival, bringing athletes,spectators, musicians, and even dogs to Brown's Island for a three-day festival against the backdrop of downtown Richmond's urban riverfront. The festival features a variety of outdoor sports including trail running, kayaking, biking, bouldering, slacklining, stand up paddleboarding, and dog jumping. The event was designed to promote Richmond's unique riverfront, downtown trails and whitewater rapids to outdoor enthusiasts. As a result of the creation of Dominion Riverrock, there is a stronger appreciation for the value of outdoor recreation throughout the entire Richmond region.
Color Me Rad 5K

Race starts at 7:30 a.m.
Kings Dominion and Color Me Rad 5K are once again teaming up for double the fun on Saturday, May 17th. Over 5,000 participants will start the race in the Kings Dominion parking lot, then weave their way 3.1 miles through Kings Dominion's 400-acre amusement park. Throughout the race route, runners will pass through five color stations, the park's 6-acre animatronic dinosaur park and finish the race with a huge color party. Part of the proceeds from the Kings Dominion Color Me Rad 5K will be donated to Special Olympics Virginia. Separate admission to Kings Dominion is required.
Hopewell Community Day

The Virginia Office of the Attorney General in partnership with the Hopewell Police Department will be hosting the first Hopewell Community Day event. This event will give the opportunity for all the Hopewell communities to come together as "one community". They will be joined by Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring, Secretary of Public Safety Brian Moran, Senator Henry L. Marsh, III, Delegate Rosalyn Dance and a host of other State and City Leaders.
This event will give residents and businesses an opportunity to celebrate and beautify their neighborhood park through service, while honoring community involvement.
There will be food and drinks, games for the kids, service providers for both adults and kids, and the time for fellowship.

Midlothian Mines Park Tour

Take a guided tour and learn more about the coal industry in Midlothian, one of the first commercial coal mine operations in North America. Learn about the first railroad, the need for transportation improvements and the impact that coal mining had on our region. Explore up close the remains of the Grove Shaft and view a reproduction headstock of one that once stood at the park.
Midlothian Mines Geocache Hunt
Saturday, May 17, 2-4 p.m.
Visit the site of one of the first commercial coal mines in North America, view the ruins of the Grove Shaft and learn about the coal mining history of Midlothian. Participants in the program will use handheld GPS receivers to search for caches in a scavenger hunt, hunting for clues while learning GPS skills. Garmin handheld receivers will be provided. This is an engaging family oriented program suitable for all ages. Wear comfortable shoes.
